Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane has acknowledged that being let go by Arsenal during his childhood will forever be a part of his story as they prepare to face off in the Champions League.
The German powerhouse will welcome the London club for the second leg of their quarter-final, following a 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium in the previous match.
Kane has extensive experience playing against Arsenal, having spent close to two decades at Tottenham Hotspur, their rival team. His recent goal from a penalty kick in the first match brought his total goals against the Gunners to 15 in 20 games - a record surpassed only by his goals against Leicester City (20) and Everton (16).
In his early years, Kane briefly played in Arsenal's youth system before eventually moving to Spurs after being released.
In anticipation of the upcoming match at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, Kane shared insights on how he has handled rejections in his life.
"We have faced them multiple times a year over the past decade [with Tottenham], and it has always been a significant event, a crucial moment," Kane expressed. "Perhaps the memory of being let go at a young age lingered in my thoughts, and there has always been a need to prove myself.
"I am the kind of player who, throughout my journey, has faced challenges that required me to prove myself. I believe that drive never truly fades. It is ingrained in my character until the day I retire. There will always be a motivation to silence doubters or to demonstrate my capabilities.
"I don't dwell on the past and think, 'I was released at nine years old, I must make a difference tomorrow.' Now that I am part of Bayern Munich, the focus is on excelling as a top team in the Champions League. While I have a history with Arsenal, my goal is to contribute to Bayern Munich's success."
