David Alaba, the centre-back for Real Madrid, recently underwent a new medical procedure to address his knee injury. This procedure is anticipated to prolong his recovery time by several weeks, delaying his return to the field.
Alaba, who is 31 years old, suffered an ACL injury in December and initially aimed to make a comeback in time for Euro 2024. However, it became evident that achieving such a speedy recovery was not feasible.
According to Marca, Alaba's return has faced another setback as he recently underwent a minor surgical procedure to address his injured knee.
Although the surgery was not significant, it is anticipated that Alaba's comeback will be delayed by a minimum of two additional weeks.
It is now projected that Alaba will resume his sporting activities in either September or October 2024, approximately ten months after the initial injury occurred.
Madrid has faced significant challenges this season due to injuries, especially with Eder Militao, their fellow centre-back, who recently recovered from his own ACL injury. As the summer transfer window approaches, the Spanish champions are anticipated to actively seek a new centre-back.
This urgency is further fueled by the imminent departure of 34-year-old Nacho Fernandez, whose contract expires next month. With Nacho's exit, Carlo Ancelotti will have limited senior options in Alaba, Militao, and Antonio Rudiger.
Leny Yoro, the 18-year-old talent from Lille, has emerged as a significant target. Meanwhile, Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite has caught the attention of both Madrid and Manchester United. Despite this, Madrid is unlikely to make a substantial investment in a center-back, as they focus on securing Kylian Mbappe's signature and the associated expenses.
