Barcelona's head coach, Xavi, has acknowledged that a verdict regarding Vitor Roque's future with the club will be reached during the upcoming summer.
Xavi was cautioned by Roque's agent, who emphasized the necessity for the player to receive more playing time or else a permanent departure from Barcelona would be sought.
This contradicts previous rumors suggesting that the 19-year-old might be loaned out for the 2024/25 season.
Despite the agent's warning, Xavi persisted in his decision to not grant any playing minutes to Roque during Monday's victorious match against Real Sociedad, which ended with a score of 2-0.
Xavi provided an explanation after the game, stating that he had endured a significant blow to his ankle and was facing difficulties. "He couldn't even warm up," Xavi added.
When asked about the remarks made by Roque's agent, Xavi firmly stated, "I do not engage in discussions with player agents. Our decisions will be made internally and at the end of the season."
Xavi acknowledged the competition for playing time at Barca, emphasizing that as the coach, he believes there are players in better physical condition to contribute. He also mentioned that Roque, being a young player, is competing against highly skilled individuals.
SPORT reports that Barcelona has not yet informed Roque's representatives about any decision. The representatives are firm in their stance that if Roque's playing time does not see a substantial increase, they will depart from Catalonia permanently this summer.
Roque's appearances since joining in January have been limited to 13, accumulating a total of 310 minutes on the field. The most recent appearance was on April 13.
According to multiple reports in Spain, Xavi holds the belief that Roque's current abilities are insufficient to contribute effectively to the team. Nevertheless, Barcelona has not abandoned hope in his future potential.
On the other hand, Roque's representatives are unwilling to continue with his limited involvement in the team and are actively seeking a permanent departure this summer, if required. However, the ultimate decision lies with Barcelona, as the young striker still has an impressive seven years remaining on his contract.
